Diagnostics for Digestive Health
to Support Gastroenterology Patient Pathways
Alpha Laboratories has extensive experience in faecal diagnostic indicators with a range of tests for screening and monitoring diseases of the gut. These include Faecal Haemoglobin (f-Hb), Calprotectin, Helicobacter pylori and Elastase.
f-Hb and Calprotectin are valuable markers that can assist in the patient pathway, for initial triage and can reduce the need for colonoscopy in many cases.

Calprotectin
Differentiate functional disorders such as IBS from organic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

FIT
FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) detects minute amounts of blood in faeces to identify possible signs of bowel disease.

Elastase
For many labs, the faecal elastase assay is the preferred test used to screen for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

H.pylori
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a spiral bacterium and is associated with a variety of gastrointestinal diseases including gastritis, duodenal and gastric ulcers.
